Tosca's story is a truly amazing story, and begins long before she was taken in by Mt. Hope Kennel K9 Warrior Rescue. Before returning to the United States, Sgt Tosca served three tours of duty overseas protecting our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Tosca was an explosives K9, and bravely risked her life every day by inspecting the paths for explosive ahead of our troops.

One day Tosca actually lost most of her tail due to an explosive being set off, but continued serving to keep others safe. Tosca actually outranked her handler as she was a Sergeant in the military for her service time.

Tosca was given to Mt Hope in February 2014 by a military contractor group with the promise of needing care for 6-8 weeks before being redeployed overseas. Weeks turned into months and the contractor group never came for the twelve dogs, nor did they fulfill their promises to pay for the cost of their care. In June 2015, the contractor group told Mt Hope that the dogs were too old and that they should dispose of them however they choose.

In June 2015, the contractor group told Mt Hope that the dogs were too old and that they should dispose of them however they choose.

Mt. Hope Kennel K9 Warrior Rescue ignored the demands to "dispose"of the dogs and instead began reuniting the military pups with their handlers. They were able to reunite almost all of the dogs, but they were unable to find Tosca's original owner. Due to her skittishness following her combat experience, she was not able to be adopted to a normal family. Greg at Mt. Hope K9 Warrior Rescue adopted her permanently so that she could have the great life of retirement that a veteran dog deserves.

Greg has spent over $150,000 helping these twelve dogs come back from war, and in doing so has put his home and shelter at risk. We encourage you all to read the story of these dogs and the amazing lengths Mt. Hope Kennel K9 Rescue Warrior has taken to make sure they get the care they deserved. You can read the story here.
